To keep a positive thing going, each time I have called Dometic they have provided fantastic customer service. Given how terrible their website has become, that sure is welcomed when trying to find out something about one of their many, many products across their several brands.
You are correct about the website its awful.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks so. It is almost unusable if trying to find manuals, etc.

No problem! There are a few other shops that specialize in that conversion too. I am not familiar with any of them personally but do know folks who have had it done and it sure is cool. It lets you have your cake and eat it too.

It looks like a piece of UHMW, which is quite often used on sliding surfaces - just as you indicated. If you can't find the exact replacement part, you can buy UHMW in different sizes from places like McMaster Carr and fab up your own replacement.

We visited CNP in 2022. The park is beautiful considering the otherwise unassuming landscape of the area. Note it is basically surrounded by city, so it makes for an interesting experience. We enjoyed the big hitters including the Ledges, Brandywine Falls, Bridal Veil Falls, Blue Hen Falls, Tinkers Creek Gorge, and both visitor centers. That was a full day and didn't allow us to ride the Scenic Railroad, hike as much as we wanted, or to get out on bikes or kayaks. Two full days or three relaxed days would be best if you had the time.

Utah's Big Five & Off-roading - Vehicles other than a Jeep?
An interesting facet of the "Big Five" is the option for off-roading. My trusty guidebook points out a few of the park roads such as Burr Trail Road in Capital Reef and Shafer Trail Road in Canyonlands. It does refer to these roads as requiring a "high clearance 4WD" vehicle and uses a Jeep looking vehicle as an icon. We travel towing our short wheelbase Ford Expedition (4x4, with Hi/Lo on the t-case, skid plates). For anyone who has traveled these park roads/trails, are they passable in something other than a true Jeep, such as our toad? Ground clearance is comparable between the two vehicles, believe or not, but the big difference is in approach and departure angles, a Jeep clearly being superior. Are there a lot of obstacles which need to be driven over? Thanks!

I guess one of my questions are all diesel pushers built the same? So a Forest River product would be similar to a Newmar or Thor?
I would venture to say most folks on this forum would agree Newmar is a superior product to Thor or Forest River. I would agree 100%. Newmar is one of the three to five makes I would consider great units that have some real quality and thought built into them.
As mentioned above, I have also heard some banks are not interested in loaning money for coaches older than 10 years. The solution in that case, if one is borrowing some money to put toward the purchase of an 11 - ? year old coach, could be to work with a credit union. Normally, they'll work with their customers on pretty much anything.

Same here; we avoid the hassle and keep the heat on (if you are confident your rig can avoid freezing in this manner). I have this scenario twice a year where the coach needs to get from indoor storage to somewhere before Christmas and getting prepped for spring break. We just keep the Aquahot fired up and heating elements on. It burns a little diesel, but far less than driving it, so not terribly noticeable.

Hello Thermoguy.
Without understanding the laws in your state, could you simply pull your horse trailer behind your fifth wheel? I suppose it would be tricky due to the weight of the horses/trailer and getting the fifth wheel set-up properly, in addition to the overall length.
Something you may want to consider as well is once you get to where you are going with the new motorhome and the horse trailer, how will you get around? My parents recently entertained the idea of moving from a fifth wheel to a motorhome to solve a similar dilemma with their boat. The two reasons they did not go forward with that plan were getting around when they got to their location and the cost of maintenance on the motorhome.
As far as recommendations on your class A search, it seems like you are already considering some of the key factors, like making sure the powertrain is up to the job. I'd recommend, as another did, to get into the large engines (11 liters plus) which are also used in over the road trucks. The downside is, for example, an oil change will run you $500 yourself (plus the $300 drain pan you will need for that job), or $1200 at the dealership. The annual costs continue from there add quickly up to a few thousand dollars on a "cheap" maintenance cycle.
Additionally, I'd recommend to look for motorhomes where "fixes" to common issues are "built-in". What I mean is look for coaches that don't have historical problems or poor designs in certain areas, but instead were designed and built right the first time around. This narrows your eligible makes to just three to five in my opinion, and may push you into older coaches based on your price point. However, I wouldn't worry about that because you will find many well cared for coaches with all of the options you want, and probably more, plus the pride of having an awesome coach.
A side question, how do you ensure your horses, regardless of what is towing their trailer, aren't being suffocated by noxious fumes from the tow vehicles exhaust? Would that potentially be worse being behind a motor consuming much more fuel and air than your current setup? I had never considered if that was an issue or not...

I just rebuilt a 6.7l out of my Ram 3500. Just parts and machine work were close to $11,000. That cost doesn't count removal of the engine, tear down, diagnosis, reassembly, and reinstallation. That was all courtesy of myself and was easily 40 - 50 manhours of my labor. Some shops are charging $180/hour nowadays in the Midwest, and seeing you are on the East Coast it is probably much higher. While that is not 100% relevant, it just goes to show that things have gotten very expensive (as we all know). Close to $80k seems like a lot for that job though, but I'd bet at least half is labor, leaving the rest to bigger and perhaps more expensive parts. Good luck!
I am curious, what went wrong with the engine? I am "slightly" partial to Cummins, but even with that aside, they are normally rock solid for 100s of thousands miles under pretty intense duty cycles (*exception the 6.7l above :) )

As one of the other posters mentioned, it is probably more realistic to cruise. However, there is always that allure of a great road trip.

I use an Apollo crimper with Apollo clamps and fittings. I keep an assortment of fittings, a few bags of clamps, and of course a crimper on my coach. It's a great tool and even has a small LED that lights up when the clamp has been crimped to the right amount. I have had zero issues with this arrangement, save the 90-degree barbed to 1/2" FIP swivel fittings. The pipe side will almost always need tape to seal properly.

Generally speaking, it shouldn't be an issue. I've never seen our full-size side by side pull more than a few amps. Even a smaller inverter should handle it easily (you'd want to do the math, just to be sure, I suppose).

Not that I wish you any misfortune, but in case you ever "test" that diamond plate, let us know how it holds up! I always fear in the back of my mind what a blowout would do to my coach. Unfortunately, I am not sure what could be practically effective against such violent force from a large heavy tire.
